Taxes in Focus

As tax season begins to fade into memory, tax cuts move front and center as the President proposed drastic tax cuts to both personal and corporate rates.  This isn’t the first time these tax cuts have moved the markets, as the expectation of corporate tax cuts created positive momentum for the equity markets last November.

How High Will They Go?

I recently returned from an investment conference in New York City that was hosted by JP Morgan.  The conference was timely, because there are a number of questions that we are facing regarding investments.  Perhaps the most pressing question involves interest rates.  The markets expect two rate increases this year from the Federal Reserve, yet many at JP Morgan are forecasting four rate hikes.

Positive Signals for the U.S. Stock Market and Economy

Last Wednesday, the Commerce Department reported stronger than expected growth in retail sales in January, and the Fed reported factory output increased for the month. Separately, the Labor Department said a closely watched gauge of U.S. inflation rose to its highest annual level in nearly five years. This is the latest sign that years of sluggish price growth could be coming to an end.

2016: A Successful Maiden Voyage

2016 saw quite a few interesting events in the U.S., and this held true for US equity markets as well.  All three major indices were in correction territory (down 10% or more) by February of 2016.  US markets experienced a shock the day of Brexit, only to rebound nicely in July.
